Today I posted about this Christmas cake on my blog today. It is from Amazing Magical Jell-O desserts from the 1970s but lets be real, I could definitely see this cake made in the ‘50s and ‘60s. Last picture is the inspiration photo from the cookbook. Check it out with link in bio. #christmascake #christmas #vintagechristmas #1970s #cakerecipes #kitschychristmas #retro #easyrecipes #dessertsofinstagram #christmasfood #quaintcooking
This is my first ever challenge! It’s Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas is the theme this week for the Holly Jolly Christmas Challenge. For me it is when I first see ornaments in the stores which makes me want to immediately go home to put up my tree. I finally am starting today. In my box of ornaments, I had forgotten I packed away this vintage inspired snowman mug I had gotten for Christmas. I was planning on testing some hot chocolate recipes from my old cookbook collection and thought this was fate. So in the mug is the hot cocoa recipe from the 1950s Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook. It was pretty tasty and will be hard to beat. Be forewarned, I blog about vintage recipes so all of my post will probably include food 😂! #vintagechristmas #christmasdecor #christmasornaments #treedecorating #hotcocoa #snowman #hollyjollyvintagechallenge #quaintcooking
Last part of the 1963 menu from Better Homes and Gardens Birthdays and Family Celebrations is on the blog. The dessert was the very old fashioned mince pie with hard sauce. This was my grandma’s favorite pie so it was nice to recreate it. The origins of Waldorf salad is now on the blog. I had already written this post before I decided on the 1963 Thanksgiving Menu that featured this salad so I just postponed this post till now. This is a super easy classic salad and if you want more details, check out the link in the bio. #midcenturyfood #waldorfsalad #retrofood #apples #celery #walnuts #saladsofinstagram #thanksgiving #vintage #quaintcooking
Yesterday I talked about the appetizers I made from a 1963 Thanksgiving Menu. Next up on the blog is the main course which consisted of turkey, mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing, green beans almond, Waldorf salad, cranberry sauce and rolls. If you want to read how it went, check out the link in the bio. Also how great are those Fire King plates and Libby gold leaf glassware! The cookbook I used, in case you were wondering, is The Better Homes and Gardens Birthdays and Family Celebrations. #midcenturyfood #vintagefood #libbyglassware #midcentury #fireking #1960s #sixties #betterhomesandgardens #retrofood #thanksgiving #thanksgivingfood #birthdaysandfamilycelebrations #holidays #turkey #cornbreadstuffing #greenbeans #quaintcooking
On my blog Quaint Cooking, I am talking about the Thanksgiving meal I made following a menu I found in the 1963 Better Homes and Gardens Birthdays and Celebrations. First up are the appetizers - curried wheat bites, cold tomato starter and watermelon pickles with assorted olives. It was a super easy spread and you can find out about it on my blog. Later on in the week I will start talking about the main meal. #libbyglassware #goldleaf #fireking #midcentury #vintage #betterhomesandgarden #birthdaysandfamilycelebrations #thanksgiving #appetizers #1960s #vintagefood #retrofood #sixties #vintagerecipes #quaintcooking
