1931 Thanksgiving Menu

So here is my annual Thanksgiving tradition of following a vintage menu. A little late but here nonetheless. Ok so in case you didn’t know, I have done menus from 1963, 1970s, 1939, and 1958. This year I wanted to do an easy menu because shopping for groceries this year has been WILD. Y’all saw the price of eggs for a bit there…. I honed my search in the three decades where frugality and simplicity became essential. So off to the 1930s, 1940s, and 1970s I headed and finally decided on one from 1931. Well, actually I did a combination of two as I got inspiration from The Silent Hostess Treasure Book by General Electric and The Art of Cooking and Serving by Sarah Field Splint.

So what is on the menu this year:

Shrimp Cocktail*      Stuffed Celery*      Olives

Roast Turkey      Celery and Olive Stuffing

Mashed Potatoes and Gravy      Buttered Carrots*

Cranberry Sauce

Pumpkin Pie with Whipped Cream and Honey      Cheese

Coffee

Like always, there will be a post tomorrow talking about the starters and another one the next day talking about the main course. This was a rather easy and basic menu so not too many recipes will be given. I also used some of the recipes from the 1939 menu and I will link back to those on the respective day. This has been a rather difficult year to run a food blog with the price of groceries over the past year. Hence my little hiatus. Thanks to everyone who is still visiting my little corner of the internet!
